Stand out from the crowd this season in a sumptuous Scottish-made cashmere sweater. Finished by hand and exclusive to Hilditch & Key, we have numerous hues to choose from, both in-store and online. Whether you select an understated classic or a statement bold pastel, one thing is certain, you’ll be sure to cut a dash during the cooler months. Lightweight enough to wear under a jacket in town, yet warm enough to keep out the chill of a country weekend, our sweaters are the go-to staple for any discerning gentleman.
Our cashmere sweaters are produced by a small knitwear company based on the picturesque banks of the River Annan. Family owned and comprising only 20 staff, they have been in existence for half a century. Only the very softest cashmere yarns are chosen for the manufacturing process, from some of the finest spinners in the world. Each individual sweater is comprised of four panels, which are stitched into place using state-of-the-art knitting machines; the collar is then skilfully linked by hand onto the garment.
The level of care afforded to the sweaters results in each one passing through 12 pairs of skilled hands before reaching the final stage, known colloquially as ‘the milling’. To a lay person, this involves the raiment being washed in the local Dumfries and Galloway water. Being of a neutral pH, this enhances the naturally delicate, yet durable, cashmere to produce a garment of incredible tactile softness. Such simple and traditional techniques used during a sweater’s production means there is a minimal amount of ‘over working’. This helps to promote the garment’s ultimate longevity, thus providing fantastic value for money for a luxury item of such undoubted quality.
